Spaceport Associates has been operating since 2001, providing support to a range of clients who are involved in the planning and operations of the commercial space business, in the space tourism sector, and in developing spaceports. The Washington DC Director has been making contributions to the creation of this industry sector from even earlier.

Our first client was Futron Corporation, for which Derek Webber served as a dedicated program manager to deliver the $1.8M ASCENT Study of launch markets to NASA’s Marshal Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. The study took 20 months and 15 analysts and was finished on schedule and to cost. The final report has become a milestone document in space market forecasting. Other clients have included Transformational Space Corporation (t/Space), Constellation Services International (CSI), Spaceworks Engineering Inc (SEI), Rocketplane/Kistler Inc (RpK), The Brazilian Space Agency, ASTROX Corporation, The Gerson-Lehrman Group, and Incredible Adventures.

Deliverables take many forms. They may be documents, presentations, contract language, bid proposals, ongoing special advisor services, surveys, forecast models, or indeed combinations of the above. The hallmarks of the organization are quality and pragmatism. We have no conflicts of interest, being self-funded, and have an unrivaled knowledge base for this fledgling industry.

Presentations have been given to Capitol Hill staffers to ensure that Congress is aware of the economic, educational, and employment potential of the new markets. The DC Director supports public awareness of space tourism via writing of articles, op-eds, and by chairing and membership of panels on space tourism, spaceports and space financing at conferences organized by the National Space Society, The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the Washington Space Business Round Table, The Space Commerce Roundtable, etc.
